Spotlight on…Ken Fujiuchi
Posted by Lisa Forrest on December 21, 2009
As part of our bi-weekly “Spotlight” series, we’re featuring interviews with E. H. Butler Library staff, faculty, and administration. This interview spotlight shines on Emerging Technology Librarian, Ken Fujiuchi.
What are your major job responsibilities?
I teach LIB300 Advanced Library Research, provide library instruction for other courses, teach technology workshops, and serve as overall technology geek extraordinaire.
What do you like best about working in the library?
I enjoy the challenge of being prepared to answer any question.
What are your hobbies?
Graphic novels, manga, movies, science fiction/fantasy literature, and World of Warcraft.
What are you currently reading?
Shadow of the Giant by Orson Scott Card
If you could be a character in any novel you’ve ever read, who would you be and why?
I’ve always like Jubal Harshaw from Stranger in a Strange Land. I think I remember him as a general know it all, without coming off as being too snobby.
What was your favorite book as a child and why?
Any Choose Your Own Adventure book. Nothing beats being able to make different choices to get different stories from the same book.
What do you like most about the city of Buffalo?
Frank’s hot sauce, Wegmans, the mild summers, and Gabriel’s Gate wings.
If you could do any job besides the one you’re doing now, what would it be? (What’s your dream job?)
Island Caretaker

Avoid Disaster: Save Your Work
Posted by Lisa Forrest on December 10, 2009
Winter is here…and so are power outages!
Extreme weather conditions can cause severe reductions in power to the college’s electrical substation, which will then shut down to protect the campus from potential damage. National Grid is working to permanently correct this acute sensitivity. While the campus awaits final resolution, please be advised that the college may still experience short-term power reductions or losses, especially during extreme weather conditions.
While working at the computer stations, it is recommended that you frequently save your work on a flash drive or other portable storage device.
