Rooftop Poetry Reading April 25

(Butler 210; 4 pm) – Join us to hear humor writer Tom Waters and poet Sara Ries read, then stick around for an open mic afterward. Tom Waters will read from If They Can’t Take A Joke, his “fourth published collection of wickedly subversive and laugh out loud rants, essays, and celebrity interviews” (author’s quote). This event is open to all!

Exhibit: Watercolor Flowers

These beautiful watercolor paintings are the creations of the residents of the ElderWood Health Care facility at Wedgewood in Amherst, New York. They are part of a program run by Tess Lojacono, who provides fine art instruction to assisted living facilities and nursing homes throughout Western New York.

In honor of National Poetry Month, E. H. Butler Library’s Rooftop Poetry Club is pleased to present this multimedia exhibit. There are poetry books and posters here to look at, but the centerpiece is the video installation (pictured).

Called “slide,” this twenty minute video is the work of sixteen poets. Each poet chose a handful of discarded 35mm art slides (previously from the library’s collection), then wrote and recorded a poem to match. Features contributions from Sitsofe Agbemenu, Trudy Antwi, Charles Bachman, Michael Basinski, Nikki Carroll, Patrice Cathey, Joseph Cooper, William Cragun II, Lisa Forrest, Peter Greico, Sandra Pauline-Clair Jardine, Rachel Johnson, Christopher Stampone, Matt Thompson, Peggy Towers, and Carol Townsend.

Masonry Repair Work to Begin on Butler Library

The college is about to begin the second phase of a project to repair deteriorated masonry at several buildings, including Butler Library. Temporary fencing will be set up to separate work areas from pedestrian traffic. Work will include asbestos abatement, replacement of sealants at exterior masonry and window joints, re-pointing of brickwork, brick replacement, and concrete repair.

The front book drop will not be in service during this time, however, the book drop in the back of the library on the loading dock will remain available. Work is scheduled to be finished by mid-November.
