The event includes a FREE screening of the anime film, Barefoot Gen at 7pm. Followed by a brief memorial service with floating lanterns at the Lake in the Japanese Garden.

Barefoot Gen is about young 6 year-old Gen and his mother who must survive when their home and family in Hiroshima are destroyed by the atomic bomb in 1945. The story is based loosely on the personal experiences of author Keiji Nakazawa.

This critically acclaimed animated feature is considered one of the most important films of its genre.
