Ink Cartridge Recycling on Campus

Posted by Lisa Forrest on January 26, 2009

Did you know that Buffalo State participates in the “Cartridge World Recycling Program” for empty ink and toner cartridges?  Special recycling bins for cartridges from fax machines, copiers, laser and inkjet printers, etc. are located in each department, in each residence hall mailroom, and in some common areas on campus.  For more information on other recycling services available on campus, see the Evergreen Website.

Green Library News

Posted by Lisa Forrest on January 23, 2009

Welcome back!  E. H. Butler’s “Green Team” would like to invite you to join us (we’re ALL in on this one together!) — and also tell you about a few things we’ve been working on while you were on break.

First off, we are really excited about our new magazine exchange program.  Looking for a little recreational reading? Not sure what to do with that pile of magazines in your dorm room? Need some magazine pictures for a collage project?  We’ve set up three “Magazine Exchange” stations in the library—located in the Copier Lounge, Study Quad, and International Students’ Reading Area (3rd Floor, SE Quadrant). Feel free to drop off your “gently used” magazines in any of the racks—and take what you’ll read or re-use.

As part of E. H. Butler’s “Go Green” initiatives, overdue book notices to students will now be distributed via e-mail.  Made possible through the new Banner system, e-mailed overdue notices will not only save trees– but cut down on print and paper costs as well (which means more money for other things– like books!).  Please note that at this time, this service is for students only (not faculty or staff).  Also, lost items, reserves, and faculty/staff overdue notices will still be distributed via snail mail.

Coming soon: “Green Speak” workshop series…and much more.  Stay tuned to this blog for updates.

Ideas?  Questions?  Green Tips?  Feel free to leave any comments on other “green” ideas you may have for the library on this blog, or e-mail Lisa Forrest at forresla@buffalostate.edu.

Wanted: Inaugural Poems

Posted by Lisa Forrest on January 15, 2009

seal-presidential-color1Poets!  Are you excited about the inauguration?  Why not write a poem saying so?   David Lampe sent us his poem “An Iaugural Occassion”  and we thought it was just grand.  Please share your presidential poems with us through the comment link below.  Happy Inauguration!

An Inaugural Occasion : What will we have? by Dr. David Lampe

An inventory a la Angelou,

an analysis milled by an Arkansas

Williams, or an after event party piece

of Southern strum and drink by Dickey?

Or a frosty memory piece

when prepared cranky couplets

blew away in blinding January gleam?

No, no instead Elizabeth Alexander

who announces”I believe

in symbols; symbols bear power;

symbols demand power”and looks

to Auden and Gwendolyn Brooks

will “attend to the moment itself”

for all of us to add celebration

and cerebration to ceremony.
