Duplex Printing Is Here
Posted by Lisa Forrest on February 23, 2009

As part of E. H. Butler’s green initiative program, all library printers will be programmed for double-sided printing beginning March 9th.
Please join us in “using less” and saving more!
Note: Duplex printing applies to B&W printing only. Single-sided options will be made available to those who require such accommodations. Please see a student assistant at the Application Support Desk for assistance with single-sided printing.
Did You Know?
* If offices throughout the United States increased the rate of two-sided copying from the 1991 figure of 20% to 60%, they could save the equivalent of about 15 million trees?! (Goldbeck, 1995, Choose to Reuse).
* The average daily web user prints 28 pages daily–that’s a lot of trees!

I love this initiative! I always struggle with copiers trying to make two- sided copies. Looking forward to this change.

Thanks Irene! We’re really excited about how much PAPER this is going to save. This applies to the PRINTERS, not the copiers (some folks are getting this mixed up). Copiers have always had a 2-sided option. If you need help figuring that out, see a student proctor (in the orange t-shirt!).

I applaud Butler Library’s decision to offer duplex printing. As someone who has given green computing presentations, reducing energy costs through such simple changes is the way to go. After all, even though charity begins at home, green computing begins at the individual user level.
