Spotlight on Jeffrey Dirr
Posted by Lisa Forrest on November 17, 2009
We’ve decided to start interviewing E.H. Butler Library staff and student workers for a weekly “spotlight” section of our blog.
This week’s spotlight shines on Jeffrey Dirr!
Describe your job responsibilities: I’m responsible for re-shelving books and stack maintenance.
What do you like best about working in the Library? Meeting lots of people– and getting my exercise by walking around the library all day.
What are your hobbies? Guitar playing. I also attend a lot of concerts.
What book are you currently reading? A music theory book.
If you could be any character from history, who would you be and why?
That would have to be Ludwig Van Beethoven because he was a musical genius.
What was your favorite book as a child and why? It was called Silver for General Washington. I’ve always loved history.
What do you like most about the city of Buffalo? There are so many free concerts throughout the area. Buffalo has such an amazing music scene!

Did you know that the average 15-24-year-old American spends almost two hours each day watching TV, but only seven minutes of their leisure time reading? Graphic novels, which convey two-thirds of a story visually, can be an important part of both educational and leisure reading for people of all ages. Check out E. H. Butler Library’s collection of graphic novels today!
Click here for more information on Western New York’s Get Graphic Project, a community-wide project designed to introduce teens, parents, librarians, and teachers to the incredibly popular literary format of graphic novels.

The new “Streaming Plus” segment adds material from the producers PBS, AIMS Multimedia, and ClearVue, and increases access for the Buffalo State community to over 8,800 full-length videos in the database, plus teacher resources, and nearly 3,000 audio files. All content is searchable via keyword and other options.
